CygNet Software Product Lifecycle Policy and Matrix

To ensure that our development resources continue to deliver the most innovative and cost-effective products to our customers, we may periodically elect to end of life (EOL) products. The reasons include:

  • Technology innovation.
  • Development- or customer-driven changes.
  • Product maturation.
  • Hardware/firmware obsolescence.
  • Replacement with functionally richer product or technology.
  • A newer version that supersedes an older one, including bug fixes and enhanced functionality.

We recognize that EOL milestones and the associated migration or system changes that may result from these milestones impact your enterprise. With that in mind, we have published this Product Lifecycle policy.

General Policy Guidelines

  • Major Releases are supported for twenty-four (24) months or two (2) subsequent Major Releases, whichever comes first.
  • Service Releases are considered an update of the Major Release and falls under the same lifecycle as the Major Release.
  • The lifecycle of specific components may be shorter than the lifecycle of the release in which the component was introduced.
  • During any phase of the Product Lifecycle, it may be necessary to upgrade to a more current product to correct a reported problem.
  • As a general rule, CygNet will provide at least twelve (12) months notice for EOL of a product.
  • CygNet reserves the right to change the time frame at its sole discretion based on business needs or technical risks for customers.

Terminology

  • General Availability (GA) – The date that the product/component is released for sale/use.
  • Notice of Status Change (NSC) - The date on which CygNet publicly communicates the specific dates for a product’s end of life.
  • End of Sales (EOS) – The date at which the product ceases to be available for purchase.
  • Last Available Release (LAR) – The date or the release in which the component is last shipped.
  • Limited Support (LS) – The date at which the Limited Support phase begins. In Limited Support, Software Development provides code-level changes only for issues that are classified as Severity 1 (Critical) or Severity 2 (High) level support incidents as defined in the Software Subscription Fact Sheet. In general, Severity 1 and 2 issues are those issues that affect daily material operations due to a defect in the software and cannot be solved by a workaround. Technical support is provided throughout this phase of the lifecycle.
  • End of Life (EOL) - The date or version on which the product becomes obsolete. Once obsolete, the product is not sold, manufactured, improved, repaired, maintained, or supported. Software Development support ends. No further code level maintenance. Technical support may be provided, depending upon the request. If you continue to use obsolete products they may not be compatible with more recent products. The EOL date may be a specific date or coincide with a new release.
  • Version Number –The Version number represents Platform, Product Version, Service Release, and Build. For example, 7.1 SR1 represents Platform 7; Product Version 1; Service Release 1. Individual files show the build number (e.g., 7.1.1.34).
  • Major Release – A Major Release may include new features, functionality, new products, or a significant architectural change. A Major Release is indicated by an increment to the Platform or Product Version number (e.g., 7.1 to 7.2 or 7.2 to 8.0).
  • Service Release – A Service Release may include bug fixes, usability enhancements, and other general improvements. A Minor Release is indicated by an increment to the Service Release number (e.g., 7.1 to 7.1 SR1 or 7.1.0 to 7.1.1).
