A new release of CygNet's eponymous application is claimed to be the first product to combine a geographic information system (GIS) with operational SCADA data. CygNet V 7.2 lets both GIS and SCADA systems maintain their own data sets, avoiding the need for data replication. CygNet deploys a 'network-centric' architecture as used in modern high-bandwidth video and imaging systems to deliver high data volumes to applications and end-users.

According to the January 15, 2009 Monthly Statistical Report published by the American Petroleum Institute (API), the total demand in the U.S. for combined petroleum products hit its lowest levels since 2003. The findings are a result of high market prices early in the year and an increasingly weak economy as the year progressed. The same report indicated that crude oil and petroleum product imports hit a five-year low at 12.9 million barrels per day. This data underscores the challenges faced by energy companies as they balance volatile market conditions with shareholder value creation.

'Non-Disruptive' deployment provides single management console for whole network

CygNet Software www.cygnetscada.com, a leading provider of enterprise operations software and solutions for the oil and gas industry, has announced it has expanded the size of its headquarters in San Luis Obispo, Calif. and opened a new office in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The company's growth includes the recent commissioning of CygNet software on an additional 6,000 miles of gas pipeline operated by CygNet clients and a more than 30 percent increase in employee headcount during the past year. This expansion is a direct result of strong demand for its enterprise operations software, which drives market responsiveness and operational efficiency.

Horizons are expanding for information technology use as a means to improved productivity in the petroleum industry. In some cases, validation comes from other industry applications. Yet further progress, across industries, could be slowed by growing cyber threats.

CygNet Software announced three executive appointments, which position the company for continued growth. Former Invensys executive Mike Hill has been named vice president of sales. CygNet’s current vice president of sales and marketing, Steve Robb, will now serve as vice president of business development, and current CygNet software engineer Doug Rauenzahn will become director of product management.

The global upstream oil & gas (O&G) industry is serviced by hundreds of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) vendors. For most O&G industry professionals SCADA has had a clearly defined, relatively unchanging role in production operations.

The technology that is present in today's flow computers easily can perform more than just flow computation.
